After this incident, Disney reinstated lead foremen on most rides, and the Anaheim Police Department placed officers in the park to speed response. Disney received much criticism for this incident as the result of its alleged policy of restricting outside medical personnel in the park to avoid frightening visitors, as well as for the fact that the employee in charge of the ship at the time had not been trained in its operation. The normal tie line, an inelastic hemp rope designed to break easily, was improperly replaced for financial reasons by an elastic nylon rope that stretched and tore the cleat from the ship's wooden hull. One of the guests, a 33-year-old man, died of a head injury at UCI Medical Center two days later.

So, point one: Keyboard Maestro rocks, and if you’re not using it, I can guarantee you’re wasting time (Keyboard Maestro even estimates how much time you’re saving - I’m up to 880 hours since the calculation appeared in 2008). It’s just copying and pasting between two apps, but Keyboard Maestro turns an annoying and error-prone task into an entirely accurate set of steps that takes only seconds. Another macro juggles that copied text and pastes it into the associated fields in the iTunes Producer app for submission to the iBookstore. For instance, one macro expertly alternates between simulating Tab and Command-C in Firefox to copy specific fields from a Web page used to build pages on the Take Control site. Other macros do non-trivial bits of work for me and tie together multiple programs, often in ways that aren’t possible with AppleScript or Automator. Those infinitesimal bits of time are like the energy drain from glowing lights on otherwise inactive electronics - meaningless in the individual instance, but vast in their overall impact. Similarly, as much as I love LaunchBar, opening BBEdit with the F1 key triggering a Keyboard Maestro macro is a third of the work of LaunchBar’s Command-Space, B, Return. Just because I’m saving only a few seconds doesn’t mean that it’s not worthwhile, when added up over tens of thousands of messages. In fact, many of my macros are utterly simple and obvious - I could type “cheers… -Adam” at the end of every email message I send, or I could press Control-period. Don’t assume that such automation requires programming, though, at least beyond the most obvious of levels in which you tell the computer to perform Action A, followed by Action B, and so on. After all, computers excel at performing boring, repetitive, and tedious tasks perfectly each time, and do so far faster than we could do them ourselves manually. I’m always amazed when I see someone who considers themselves a Macintosh power user not using a macro utility like Keyboard Maestro. #1684: OS bug fix releases, Finder tag poll results, Messages identity verification, blocking spambots, which Apple services do you use?. ![]() ![]() #1685: Hidden secrets of the Fn key, Emergency SOS via satellite free access extended, RCS support in Messages, Rogue Amoeba icon evolution.#1686: Please support TidBITS, OS security updates, Apple services poll results, biking with an iPhone.#1687: Feature-rich OS updates, recovering from a crashing bug in Contacts, Zoom for Apple TV, how much do you use widgets?.#1688: Former Apple engineer on watchOS 10, Apple hardware testing tool, Stolen Device Protection, Apple Watch sales halted, smart TV privacy abuses. For my Summer Scholars project, I used scans from my rough drafts and sketchbooks as background while I spoke, and for my senior project fiction reading, I Powerpointed illustrations up on the screen while I read the story. I began creating Powerpoints of pure images–no text at all. In college, I smartened up, and realized that just because a Powerpoint was required, didn’t mean it needed to be bad. Students would be better off if the schools simply closed down on those days and everyone went to the Exploratorium or wrote an illustrated essay* explaining something. Elementary school PowerPoint exercises (as seen in teacher guides and in student work posted on the Internet) typically consist of 10 to 20 words and a piece of clip art on each slide in a presentation of three to six slides -a total of perhaps 80 words (15 seconds of silent reading) for a week of work. Rather than learning to write a report using sentences, children are being taught how to formulate client pitches and infomercials. ![]() Particularly disturbing is the adoption of the PowerPoint cognitive style in our schools. Unfortunately, when I was in high school, nothing secured an easy A like a Powerpoint full of chartjunk. Nothing makes you want to off yourself like a chilly conference room and a dreadful Powerpoint presentation. ![]() Please detail in the email that you need a refund for you web subscription.
Future opportunities include automated data collection methods and the wider use of genomic information in selection. The effects of selection primarily for productivity traits on temperament and welfare are discussed. Most selection indices require estimates of economic values, and it is often difficult to assign an economic value to a temperament trait. For some traits and breeds, there may be difficulties in collecting behavioral data on sufficiently large populations of animals to estimate genetic parameters. There may be a number of constraints and barriers. Most often, animals are screened for aggression or excessive fear during handling or milking, with extreme animals being culled, or EBVs for temperament are estimated, but these traits are not commonly included routinely in selection indices, despite there being economic, welfare and human safety drivers for their. ![]() Despite this, there are relatively few examples of temperament traits being used in selection programmes. Studies have also investigated the correlations between temperament and other traits, such as productivity and meat quality. The variation is sometimes considerable and moderate heritabilities have been found for the major handling temperament traits, making them amenable to selection. Heritabilities have been estimated and in some cases quantitative trait loci (QTL) have been identified. In a number of these areas, the genetic basis of the trait has been studied. There are a number of temperament traits in cattle that contribute to their welfare, including their response to handling or milking, response to challenge such as human approach or intervention at calving, and response to conspecifics. ![]() ![]() Animal and Veterinary Sciences Group, Scotland's Rural College, Edinburgh, UKĪnimal temperament can be defined as a response to environmental or social stimuli. ![]() They may even be open to trying a relationship again in the future.
